After successful completion of this course you will have the knowledge to be able to conduct internal or external audits on management systems, quality systems and environmental systems either as a member of an audit team or as the audit team leader. You may also apply for provisional auditor status under RABQSA certification scheme.
What is covered in the course?
The course covers how to perform an audit in accordance with ISO 19011 : 2003 and the specifics relating to ISO 9001 : 2008 Quality Management Systems and ISO 14001 : 2004 Environmental Management Systems. Specifically participants learn:
Auditing in general:
• The 5 important principles of auditing
• How to ensure that audits add value to the organisation
• The role and responsibilities of an auditor
• How to set appropriate audit objectives, scopes and criteria
• Why it’s important to plan the audit
• What should happen at an opening meeting
• How to gather effective audit evidence

• Why a closing meeting is vital

• The importance of the customer
• What the “process approach” really means
• How to ensure your management system locks in its improvements
• The real difference between corrective and preventive action and why preventive action is often ignored but is so critical
• The amount of documentation that is required by ISO 9001
• What an auditor should look for
• What an auditor needs to know about quality and the audit programme
• Terminology and concepts of ISO 9001
• How to apply quality management principles in the context of ISO 9001
• Relating the quality management system (QMS) to the organisational products, including services and operational processes
• Documentation required by ISO 9001
• Understand the issues arising from implementing a QMS
Environmental auditing:
• What an auditor needs to know about environmental auditing and the audit programme
• Terminology and concepts of ISO 14001
• How to apply quality management principles in the context of ISO 14001
• Relating the environmental management system (EMS) to the organisational products, including services and operational processes
• Documentation required by ISO 14001
• Understand the issues arising from implementing a EMS

The course practically prepares participants to conduct QMS and EMS audits, it is also suitable for those involved in Quality or Environmental systems and audits or who wish to extend their knowledge of these systems.
